Who are you related to?!

Hi everybody!

Bishop here, just wanting to say hi and let you know about the new FamilySearch program that the church as made available. It's really awesome. All you have to do is sign in, and it will tell you your ancestors, where they lived, and even show you maps. The best part is that it will show you which of your ancestors need temple work done for them. So you youth, we can take YOUR family names to the temple when we go to do baptisms for the dead, and you can do work for your own ancestors. Believe me, that is awesome, and you will be like the Savior, bringing needed work to your ancestors.

Here's what you need to do:

1. Find out your membership number and your confirmation date

a. Your membership number is on your temple recommend, or you can get it from the ward clerk or bishopric

b. Your confirmation date (like when you were confirmed when you were baptized) is either available from your parents or from the clerk or bishoprice

2. Go to http://new.familysearch.org and sign in as a new user.

3. That's it!!! You will be able to look at all of your ancestors!

Then you can find out if you and your friends have any of the same ancestors, or if they came from the same places! Maybe you are related to your friends and you don't even know it! :)

I hope you guys will do this, it is really important, and also a lot of fun.

My ancestors come from England, Switzerland, Germany, Norway, and Denmark. Some of the ones from England then were in New York (upstate, not NYC) for some generations before they came to Utah. What about you guys?

"In My Own Way", lesson about self-reliance

If you want to do something, don't say "some day". Do it TODAY. this is the church message I would like to share with you this week.

I like to look at the structure of the lesson as well as the content.

Here is our last lesson's recap:

1. Being self-reliant (or independent) spiritually, in other words having your own testimony,having spiritual strength to face difficult problems, and help others in their times of need.
2. Developing temporal self-reliance: prepare to take care of yourself and your family, being able to provide and help others who are in need.

• importance of work
• keeping a storage of food and other necessities
  
• learning the principals of financial security

3. Caring for needy
4. Church welfare program

So here is a question for this week:
Why was the lesson set up in this order?

Why did spiritual self-reliance come first? did caring for needy come after talking about both spiritual and temporal self-reliance?Why was it important to talk about a welfare program?

Prophets in our days

This weekend was the General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
We were very privileged to hear the messages of the people who we sustain as prophets, seers and revelators.

I was deeply touched by the talk of Jeffrey R Holland. What an amazing power of speaking and how straight forward was his language! It was great to get back to the basics and reconnect with why we believe what we believe and how important are some things that we take for granted.

Another talk that touched me deeply was the talk of Richard G. Scott. What stuck with me deeply was his story about two different occasions he felt inspired and received personal revelation. Both times were lessons in Sunday School that he attended at different times, but the teachers were very different. What was interesting for me is that the Holy Ghost can influence us in any condition. Even if the teacher is not possessing the qualities that make a teacher great, we can receive the lesson by the means of the Holy Ghost. So it is not as important how good a teacher is as how open the listener is to the promptings of the Holly Ghost.

Hello everyone!
Here it is! I hope you like it!
Since it is a first post and I don't have everyone's information to allow comments or postings, let's talk about rules. Because every game has rules, right?

THE CHALLENGE!!!

I would like to propose a challenge for this year:
Since we are studying Doctrine and Covenants by subject, the lessons do not require the reading of this great book from cover to cover. So, I would like to suggest that we go ahead and read it all the way anyways. What do you think?? any of you out there willing to join me in this quest?
I figured there are about 340 days left in these year, and there are ... I will let you look in the book yourself to see how many sections there are :-) but there are less than 340 sections, so that means you don't even have to read a whole section every day!!!
